Choosing a CO₂ Tank for Your Vivreau Water System
If you're installing a Vivreau water system or replacing the CO₂ tank on an existing system, finding the right cylinder doesn't have to be complicated.
There are a few simple things to check before you buy: the tank size, the space available, the connection, and the condition of the cylinder.
Vivreau systems that produce sparkling or semi-sparkling water require a CO₂ supply, which is typically supplied separately from the water system.
What Size CO₂ Tank Do You Need?
For many Vivreau installations, a 10 lb CO₂ cylinder can be a good option. The right size, however, depends on how much the system is used and how much room you have available.
Before purchasing a tank, measure the space where the cylinder will sit.
You'll want to know:
How tall the space is
How wide it is
How deep it is
Also leave some extra room for the valve, regulator and CO₂ line, as well as enough space to remove the tank when it needs to be refilled.
Tip: If you're replacing an existing cylinder, take a picture of the setup and measure the space. This can make it much easier to find a replacement that fits.
New or Reconditioned CO₂ Cylinders
A CO₂ cylinder doesn't necessarily need to be brand new.
A properly inspected reconditioned CO₂ cylinder can be a practical and economical option for a Vivreau system.
The important thing is that the cylinder is suitable for CO₂, in good condition and ready to be filled.
A reconditioned cylinder can be a particularly good option when you're looking for a reliable tank without the cost of buying new.
Don't Forget the Cylinder Test Date
CO₂ cylinders need to be periodically tested to make sure they remain suitable for use.
When buying a used or reconditioned cylinder, check the markings on the cylinder and make sure it is within its required testing period.
Not sure what the markings mean? We have a separate guide that explains CO₂ cylinder hydro testing and what to look for.
What About the Connection?
The CO₂ cylinder connects to the Vivreau system through a regulator and CO₂ line.
If you're replacing a tank that is already installed, the easiest thing to do is look at the existing setup.
A quick photo of the:

Valve
Regulator

can help identify what you need.
If you're installing a new system, follow the installation requirements for your specific Vivreau model.
Getting Your Vivreau CO₂ Tank
Once you know the size of the tank you need and have confirmed that it will fit, getting your CO₂ supply is straightforward.
1. Check your Vivreau system.
Know which model you're installing or replacing the tank for.
2. Measure the available space.
Make sure the cylinder will fit comfortably.
3. Choose the right CO₂ cylinder.
A 10 lb cylinder may be suitable for many installations, depending on usage and available space.
4. Check the cylinder.

5. Confirm the regulator and connection.
Make sure the cylinder can be properly connected to your Vivreau system.
